Ethiopian Organic Arabica

Most Ethiopian coffee leaves Ethiopia raw. Ours doesn't.

Single-origin arabica grown in the Ethiopian highlands, then roasted and sealed before it ever gets on a ship. What lands in your kitchen is coffee, not raw material.

The whole journey, downhill

Coffee is native to exactly one place. Follow a GORA bean down from the top of the arabica belt, and notice where the roasting happens.

Coffee starts here

Coffea arabica is native to the forest highlands of Ethiopia and nowhere else. Every arabica plant on earth traces back to this belt, roughly 1,500 to 2,200 metres up, where GORA's beans still grow.

Ethiopia is the botanical origin of arabica coffee.

1,900 m The harvest

Picked ripe, by hand

Cherries come off the branch red, one pass at a time. GORA buys direct from the growers rather than through a commodity auction, which is what lets them name the forest the coffee came from.

Fair & Direct Trade Model: supporting African farmers sustainably.

1,500 m Roasted at source

This is the part almost nobody does

Green coffee normally leaves Ethiopia raw and gets roasted an ocean later, close to whoever is selling it. GORA is roasted and packed at origin by Moyee Coffee, Ethiopia's own roaster, so the bean is finished before it starts moving.

From the forest to GORA's home in the United States is about 7,100 miles. The bag that arrives is the bag that was sealed in Ethiopia: medium roast, whole bean, nothing re-processed on this side.

Why GORA

Four things that are true before you taste it

Sourcing claims are easy to write and hard to check. These four are the ones GORA can point at a place, a lab result or a receipt for.

Single Origin Ethiopia

100% arabica grown in the Ethiopian highlands. One country, one belt. Not a blend assembled from whatever was cheapest that season.

Organic & Mycotoxin-Free

Lab-tested for purity and clean taste. Mycotoxins are a real risk in poorly dried coffee, and testing is the only way to answer for it.

Roasted at Source

Roasted and packaged in Ethiopia, not after the crossing. Freshness is locked in where the coffee is grown rather than an ocean later.

Fair & Direct Trade Model

Bought straight from the growers. Roasting at origin keeps the most valuable step of the process inside the country that farmed it.

What we will answer for

Specialty grade

Graded as specialty, not commodity. It is the tier above what most supermarket coffee is cupped at.

Mycotoxin-free

Lab-tested, because badly dried coffee genuinely carries this risk and a claim without a test is just a sentence.

Low acid

Crisp and bright on the palate without the sourness that makes people reach for milk to fix it.

Roasted in origin

The roast happens in Ethiopia. It is the single hardest thing on this list for a competitor to copy.

Who roasts this

A short company, a short supply chain

GORA sells one coffee: Ethiopian single-origin arabica, bought direct from the growers, roasted and sealed in Ethiopia by Moyee Coffee, and shipped whole bean to the United States. There is no blending step, no second roastery, and no commodity auction in the middle. It is a deliberately short list of hands between the forest and the bag, which is the whole reason the coffee tastes of where it is from.

The things people actually ask

Straight answers about the beans, the roast and the bag.

Is it whole bean or ground?

Whole bean, in all three sizes. Coffee holds its aroma far longer as a whole bean than as grounds, which is the point of roasting it at origin in the first place. Grinding is left to you, on the morning you drink it.

What does it taste like?

Floral on the nose, subtle chocolate underneath, and a light citrus brightness. The acidity is crisp and bright rather than heavy, so it stays clear black and still holds its shape under milk.

How dark is the roast?

Medium. Dark enough for the chocolate notes to come forward, light enough that the fruit and florals of an Ethiopian arabica are still in the cup.

Where is it roasted?

In Ethiopia, where it grows. Most coffee leaves its origin country green and is roasted near whoever is selling it. GORA's beans are roasted and packaged before they travel, so the bag that reaches you was sealed at source.

How should I brew it?

It is ground-to-order coffee, so it suits almost anything: pour-over, French press, espresso, cold brew, drip machines and bean-to-cup machines. Pour-over and French press show off the florals best; cold brew turns the citrus into something closer to stone fruit.

Is it organic, and what is mycotoxin-free?

The beans are organically grown and lab-tested for purity. Mycotoxins are compounds that can develop when coffee is dried or stored badly; testing for them is a check that the drying and storage were done properly. GORA's coffee is also specialty grade and low in acid.

Which size should I buy?

Buy the amount you will finish in a few weeks rather than a few months. Roasted coffee starts losing aroma once the bag is open. 250 g suits one person, 500 g a household of daily drinkers, and 1 Kg an office or a serious habit. The kilo is the best value per ounce.

How do I store it?

Somewhere cool, dry and dark, in the bag it came in, closed. Not the fridge and not the freezer. Coffee picks up moisture and whatever else is in there.

Smooth and flavorful, black or with steamed milk

I liked this coffee a lot and highly recommend it. Double espresso with some added water, kind of Americano, plus a small amount of steamed milk. It is mild and has delicate notes of chocolate. Smooth, non acidic, no burnt flavor.

High quality

Absolutely amazing coffee! GORA has such a smooth and rich flavor without any bitterness. You can really taste the quality of the Arabica beans. I've tried many premium coffees and this one honestly surprised me. Great for my morning espresso.

Good quality at a fair price

This was good coffee at a very fair price. Not to sound too snooty, though, it's not the best Ethiopian coffee beans I've ground, but they were well worth the price.
